Your route: create a loop or an itinerary

Pick your start, your distance and the places to see: Bogeton plans a loop or a one-way route for running, walking, hiking or cycling.

Your route prepares your outing before you set off: a loop that returns to your starting point, or a one-way route from one point to another, passing through the places you choose.

Open Your route

In the Activity tab, the Create your route card has one button per sport (running, walking, cycling): tap the one for your outing. The screen also opens from the start of an outing. For cycling, it’s called Your bike route.

Plan the route

  1. Choose Loop (back to the starting point) or One way (from one point to another).
  2. Tap Start: Your position, a place, a station, an address, or Home and Work once saved. For a one-way route, also choose the End.
  3. Set the distance in steps of 500 metres or 1 km. Bogeton shows the time “at your pace”.
  4. Add places under Add places: parks, gardens, landmarks, museums, bridges, viewpoints, squares… The route passes through each one, in the shortest order from your start.
  5. Tap Create the loop (or Create the route).

With no place chosen, Bogeton picks the prettiest corners for your distance. To reach your distance, it may add quays and parks along the way. If a chosen place needs more distance, Bogeton offers to Set the minimum needed. A place far from your start? Far from your start offers to start from there or from a nearby station.

Your wishes

  • Quiet: away from main roads (for cycling, cycle paths and small streets).
  • Green: parks, woods and quays.
  • Fewer stops: as few traffic lights as possible.
  • Well lit: chosen automatically after dark.

Parks closed when you pass stay out of the route, and Bogeton says so: “[Park] closes at 6:30 pm: the route goes around it.” When cycling, the route follows traffic directions and roads open to bikes.

The route screen

The map shows your route, with the distance, your time and the elevation gain. Each place has a page with its photo, its history and its details. Along the way, find the water fountains, toilets, defibrillators and traffic lights, which you can also see on the map.

  • Another loop (or Another route) offers a different path.
  • Save to your routes keeps it in Your routes, to do again later.
  • Send the route creates a GPX file, for a friend, Strava, Komoot or a watch.
  • Start begins the outing. Go there guides you to the start first, then the timer starts by itself.

Covered regions

Routes currently cover some regions, including Île-de-France, with others to follow. A start outside them says so: choose one in a covered region. The neighbourhood map downloads once over the internet, then stays on your phone.

To follow your outing once you’re off, see Running, cycling and walking with GPS. For a friend to follow you live, see Share your outing live.
